A Distant Glow
Barefoot in memory
I wander back
Along the moss covered forest floors
Under the huge Maples and Pines
That I thought were the tallest trees in the world
Where all was beauty and serenity reigned
I was careful of the brambles and snakes
That I thought were the most dangerous things of the world
Now, shod and grown, I see that safety and peace
Are just glowing in the distance
Like the mysterious green foxfire
Of my childhood forest...
