Korean War Memorial ~ Washington, DC

A Korean War Story from My Dad

Dad was called up for the Korean War and was off to Camp Atterbury, Indiana. I heard this story over and over when I was small so I don't know if my dad was at the fault of the error or someone else.

At any rate, they had night maneuvers and were told to dig foxholes at specific places in the dark. It had snowed and the ground was already frozen concrete hard/ Dad just kept telling his men to dig like their lives depended on it. Much cursing and carrying on.

Finally toward morning, as the sun came up, they realized in horror that they had dug shallow foxholes all the way the macadam of the plane runway...then dad would laugh and laugh.
