A LETTER TO MY COUNTRY  ON FATHERS' DAY

Dear America:

I may be just a little boy

but I have things to say

I don't just jump on

trampolines

play with cars, or color

days away

My daddy is a soldier...

I watch him at the crack of dawn

in his uniform of camo

putting heavy boots on.

I've seen my daddy go to work,

and stay for many hours

I want him here, at home with me,

building lookout towers

I miss him at my soccer games,

when it's time to play baseball

Sometimes I don't understand

why daddy has to give his all.

My daddy's in the Army

and he works very hard

so mom and I can live with him

in this house, with this yard....

I know lots of other children

who have daddies far away

and some of them have

mommies, too, who

aren't with them today.

... and so, my Dear America,

I just wanted you to know

that I may be just a little child

But I love my daddy so...

I'm so proud of my dear daddy

and all he does for you.

I'm proud of all the other daddies

both at home, and other places, too.

I may be just a little boy

but I just wanted to say:

Thank you for protecting me

and Happy Father's Day.

Sincerely,

An American Child.
