The Resurrected Christ by Salvator Rosa

A Thousand Wishes

For a thousand things I might wish upon

My list could be long.

I would exchange all of the thousands for one

My wish would be that I could please God in every thing done.

For a thousand things I could do, great things here on this earth

All of them worldly, and in the end what are they worth?

For all we do here on this side

Matches not what our Savior did when on the cross He died.

For a thousand things could not bring happiness to me

As one thing am I waiting to hear from Thee:

My name read from the Lamb's Book of Life,

Being welcomed home by the Lord to eternal life.

For a thousand things I could wish, not one would compare

To think all that was required of me was one honest prayer.

I see Our Savior on His throne in all the beauty untold

To worship Him at His feet with no care for riches or gold.

For a thousand wishes would not be enough if the ONE were not there

Nothing on this earth, riches, fame, or prominence could compare.

I plea now for all to examine the wishes you hold so dear

For in the end not one, no not one will even come near.

For a thousand prayers, not wishes, come forth today

Maybe just one, just one the Lord will hear say:

“Father I surrender all; I believe and ask You to come into my heart”

“Dear Jesus, forgive me of my sins, and save my soul.” WOW! One -  what a start.
