ALL FOR THE ROAD,

THE BURMA ROAD

Yunnan

Kunming

Dad wrote in his journal:

“the wholedamnthing”

They fought to cross the Salween

To cross the River’s Gorge

Yanks and Chinese Soldiers

sweated to forge

Their way across each bridge

Up and down, across each Ridge

Pilots crossed the Hump,

And dropped their

Heavy load;

Supplies for the men and the mules

Who held the Road

The Burma Road

To keep China in the war

Help her fight the Japs;

We might have to hit

The Empire of the Sun

From Chinese soil.

Through steamy jungles and

muddy water they would toil….

Young men, turned old

Before their time,

Young men who

Used to fish the rivers

At home ~

Young men lost before

Their prime ~

Young men who

Would forever bear

an emotional load

because

Of the Burma Road

All for a Road

‘Twas all for the Road…...

‘Twas all for The Burma Road.
