The Anderson’s Anniversary

Bob and Joan Anderson are going to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary tonight and hope perhaps they will get it right this time. They have been trying to have an anniversary celebration dinner for the last ten years and every year it has turned into a disaster.

The first year Bob slipped and broke his leg coming in the door, the second year Joan came down with the flu.

The third year the twins decided it was time for them to be born. After that the Andersons decided that perhaps a anniversary dinner and celebration was not the way to go and spent their anniversaries at home watching TV. This year Bob had decided to go all of the way, he called Joan from work to tell her he had made reservations at The Bank and told her it would be nice if she was ready when he got home so they could miss the big dinner crowd and then after dinner perhaps go to a movie down at the Dinoplex.

On his way home form work Bob stopped by the florist and picked up  $45 worth of a dozen roses, a bit steep but Joan was well worth it and after all this was their anniversary. When he got out of the car at home he was greeted by Fluffy their puppy that thought the roses were a toy for him and grabbed them out of Bob's hand dragging them across the lawn as Bob chased him. When the "game" Fluffy was playing with Bob was over he had managed to save one rose and obtain a hand full of thorns.

I am not going to let this ruin our anniversary Bob said to himself as he started to open the door and discovered water coming from beneath it. When he opened the door he heard the twins and Joan yelling from upstairs. Bob started to run upstairs to discover there was also a flow of water coming down the stairs.

Joan was lying on the bathroom floor where she had slipped and broken her leg when she discovered that after leaving the twins in the bath so she could get ready for the night out, they had stuffed a couple of washcloths in the toilet to see if they would plug it up and then had flushed it until the water had began to over flow on the bathroom floor so they stopped flushing but somehow in all of the flushing the flusher had gotten stuck and the water was still flooding the floor.

Bob took a deep breath and told himself he was not going to let this ruin their anniversary then turned the water off at the turn off behind the toilet and getting his suit pant wet in the process.

Bob comforted Joan as he could and told her that every thing was going to be all right then picked her up and took he into the bedroom ad laid her on the bed while he figured out what to do.

The baby sitter, Marge Watkins from down the street would be there any moment so he got the twins out of the tub dried them off and told them to put on there jammies before going back to Joan who was not in as much pain now that her leg had been elevated. Between them they managed to get Joan into some dry clothes just as Marge showed up to baby-sit.

Marge informed Bob that she had given up date to baby-sit the twins on such short notice and wanted double her regular pay for the night and could not be out after nine as her boyfriend was supposed to call and was it alright if she grabbed a bit to eat out of the fridge as she had not had time to eat before she came over and what was all of the water doing on the living room floor.

Bob took another deep breath and told himself this was not going to ruin their anniversary then told her it would be all right and went upstairs to get Joan and carry her to the car where he discovered he had left the car keys in the house and had to carry Joan back to get the keys than back to the car where he laid her on the back seat.

When they got to the hospital they were lucky and only had a short wait before Joan's broken leg was set and they were on their way to the Bank for dinner.

Bob looked at his watch they still had ten minutes to make it in time for their reservation and even then they might only be a couple of minutes late at the most.

When they got to The bank Bob helped Joan out of the car and into the bank before he went in search of a place to park then came back in to be with Joan and be seated.

Bob was right their table was ready and they sat down to a wonderful dinner of steak and lobster at $25 dollars a plate just as Bob was about to take his second bite Joan asked him why, if he liked lobster so much he seldom had it in fact since hey had been married this was the first time he had even ordered it. It was then Bob remembered that he was allergic to shell fish and started to react to it so the Calhoun County Fire Dept was called for there paramedics and soon Bob was alright again, swollen like a balloon but alright.

They ate the rest of their dinners; Bob didn't eat any more lobster then headed home.

When they arrived home they discovered that Marge had fed the twins and put them to bed.

Bob Paid Marge for her services and then helped Joan upstairs and into bed before he went downstairs and retrieved the single perfect red rose he had managed to salvage and brought it up stairs then presented it to Joan.

Joan looked at the rose then began to cry I wanted this to be a perfect anniversary she sobbed and look at what happened.

Bob took Joan in is arms, being careful not to crush the rose and replied. It was the perfect anniversary; it was with you. Sure we may have had an adventure or two tonight but we had them together and that is all that matters to me.

Joan Kissed Bob and turned out the lights
