Arlington On Thursday

In my mind

I can see

rows upon rows

stretching seemingly

away into eternity

A blanket of green

and rows…

so many rows

of white crosses…

all very pristine

I can hear echoes of salutes

volleys of twenty-one guns

saying 'well done'

There are tears

...tears in my eyes

for my heart cries

for the lost loves

lying here

Fathers and sons...

grandfathers and brothers...

husbands and wives

...now forever lovers

My heart has seen this through

another’s eyes

as his tears fell

from mine

and ever so silently...

my ears felt the

echoes of his sighs...
