BEING LONELY ALONE

Being lonely is not just the act of being alone

It lives in your brain and comes out in a thought

As a sensation unlike anything you have known

Knowing there is something you need to be sought.

Being alone is more than being the only one there

Sitting in the only chair in the whole damn room

But it’s OK because you’re the only one anywhere

No one else would be comfy in all this damn gloom.

No one to fault you should some tears happen to fall

Nobody nagging to say how so useless you really are

Nobody phoning so you don’t have to refuse the call

Nobody to notice if you’re run over by your own car.

Coyotes howl at the moon, so sorry they are alone

Wolves howl too and men feel a kinship with them

Running down a path throat filled with a sad moan

So much lost being alone and nothing to condemn.
