The Bull Moose From Hell

A friend and I were in the BWCA, slowly paddling our canoe along a rocky shoreline.  We came to a point and saw that there was a bay around the point.  This bay was full of water plants and to our surprise, in this bay stood this fine specimen – a very large bull moose with a mammoth rack.  He was a monster.  Since the wind was blowing from the moose to us, we knew he couldn't smell us so we got this bright idea of paddling towards the moose to get a closer look and maybe temp fate.

We were within 15 yards of the moose when he looked up and realized we were there.  I swear he became twice as big as he was, his eyes turned a burning, glowing red like in the horror movies, he let out a bellow like a demon possessed and came charging at us, rack down, with water spraying from his great bulk in all directions.

Realizing that our lives were in mortal danger, we paddled that canoe backwards trying to get away from this demon, turning towards the open water.  I swear to this day I could feel the hot breath of this monster on my back as I paddled for all I was worth.

Finally we were safe and in deeper water than the moose could go.  As we watched, this great monster continued bellowing with rage, seemingly daring us to come back and challenge him.  Eventually the bull moose got tired of the game, trotted out of the water and into the woods.  We went about our journey, much smarter and very lucky.
