| The Cause |
| |
| Soldiers are righteous in
their cause, they say |
| They’ll give to the last
ounce they can |
| When it’s all over at the
end of the day |
| They’ve gained only a
parcel of land |
| |
| We hold them in esteem
and honor for now |
| But we are a fickle and
forgetful bunch |
| The parcel they won we
forget somehow |
| And invite all our
enemies to lunch |
| |
| For freedom we tell them
is reason to fight |
| The job they are doing is
great |
| While they forge a chain
restricting their life |
| We tell them to hurry up
and wait |
| |
| We tell them we’ll pay
them to fight for a cause |
| We just can’t decide for
what we want them to fight |
| It could be for freedom
and our country of laws |
| But that could change
when the day becomes night |
