Conflicted
Once
I drifted far from home
Into
lands where none should roam
Compelled by thoughts inside of me
Refusing still to let me be
Though time's remorse can never cure
Those things now done that still endure
These hands that chose to take a life
This
heart that's filled with only strife
They
say that I am not to blame
For
actions taken, in war's flame
But
in my soul I see it clear
You
do not kill unless you fear
But
I was weak and trusted so
Caught up in things I did not know
For
I was young and still a fool
For
politicians, just a tool
A
brave new world or so they said
The
price was cheap, unburied dead
A
time to fight, a time for war
Shut
up and kill, that's what you're for
At
first it was the party line
Those commie pigs, those filthy swine
We
have to stop them here and now
Before they take DC somehow
The
dominoes will fall they screamed
But
that turned out to be extreme
And
history records we erred
Too
bad so many were not spared
And
though the honor still was mine
To
stand with those who stood the line
For
it was there I lost my youth
Surrendered to a thing called truth
Will
God forgive me now for then
I
took the lives of such brave men
Who
fought and died to save their way
And
trust me now, we made them pay
The
politicians did not care
Their children never over there
They
kept them safe and far away
The
rich don't risk their own they say
There is no reason I can find
For
me to ever be so blind
Conflicted I remain my friends
Perhaps that's how the story ends
