DEAR e-JOHN

With the click of a mouse,

someone's heart will be broken;

by one who types words

that used to be spoken.

He checks for "New Mail".

Back from a mission,

his laptop connection,

will bring her decision.

Like a blow to the chest

the words pound, and then sting -

what's he done wrong?

He can't think of a thing.

She doesn't answer

when he tries to phone home.

Angry and tearful,

he feels all alone.

It's too easy now

to walk out the door,

to take away love

from a soldier at war.
