Different Drums

I suppose one must suffer the cranky twit

Who never seems to quite get it:

While contrarily marching to his own drumbeat,

He is quite apt to get trampled by the feet

Of all those who aren't quite so perverse.

When one insists upon violating the norm

Of traditional behavior, why he’s subject to scorn

By those who follow the conventional way;

All of which, is of course to say -

When others go forward, don’t shift into reverse.

What’s one to do with this contrary soul?

Perhaps we can decide that he’s just being droll

And silently suffer his occasional rants

While resisting the desire to flame his pants,

Which, of course, would only make matters worse.
