ENLIGHTENED Why did I write these verses; I don't know 'Twas not at least to promote myself you know, Nor even to demean another's view, Nor to show the world what it was I knew. 'Twas not for comment, thanks, nor accolades, For all such things with my brief talent fades. Nor did I seek to use my brothers’ names, That from their horrors I did seek a fame, That all the world would know me as the scribe, Who described the soldier’s soul with naive pride. God, if you are, then spare me from your wrath For I have walked the circle of life's path, And met myself approaching from the gloom, To join the reason why the flowers bloom. © 27 June 04 Colin F Jones
