Epitaph

There is always time for tears,
Always time to remember,
Life is more than simply existing
From December to November.

It’s all the things we have done,
The good and all the bad;
Hopefully, memory of the good
Will make others just a little sad

When I’ve finally ended my life's tour
Upon this fractious earth.
I can but hope, when my time ends,
I’ll at least be worth

A tear or two of sorrow, a modicum
Of regret my days are done
And I no longer exist with you
Beneath the warming sun.

But keep in mind sunny summer
days, and all the happier times,
Cheerful tunes I sometimes sang,
The lighter verses I rhymed.

And always you must remember this:
Although I'll not be within your view,
If there's such a thing as eternity,
I’ll forever cherish you.
