"Friendly Fire" Ain’t

While viewing the photos designed to inspire pity

For victims in Fallujah and those other Iraqi cities

Where people were mangled in the jaws of war

I wondered what else the photographers saw?

Who, I wondered, actually hurled the first grenades

Or fired the first shots that began the cannonades

Which ended in the firefights, that now raise such ire?

Could the injured be the victims of their own ‘Friendly Fire’?
