GET OVER IT

He is gone - good! - You, he did not deserve
If he'd a brain he would not have buggered off
Time to cut the dead wood - give him a swerve
You gave all you had to give like you were soft
In the head - we know he was a waste of time
His soul had no poetry - he couldn't even rhyme.

Sure I'm just an old dad on the scrap heap of life
You are young, full of emotions that hurt like hell
It helps not to know that I have lived such strife
Your love story seems unique and you want to tell
The whole world of your special agony and your woe
No wish of yours to hear: "pick up the pieces and go".

You want what you thought you had - and you want it now
Seems obtuse for me to claim that "there's more fish in the sea"
When that: "he has changed his mind" is all you wish to know
You don't want to hear of another's pain when focused on "me"
With a dad's special love, I expect you to lift your game, my lass
For this all encompassing pain, like everything else, will pass.
