Good Night

Once again darkness descends on Calhoun County. Not much going on tonight. The class of 2004 of Calhoun County High School is getting ready for its prom tomorrow night at the VFW Hall. The graduation ceremony is on Tuesday night and you're all invited to come. Joan Perkins and Gene Markets are down at the hall late tonight making sure the decorations are just right. There was a lot of discussion about the Prom this year. Part of the class wanted Jimmy Jackson and his Wild Five for the band and another part wanted Mellow John Walters. The Mellow John Walters segment won out after a heated battle. It was finally decided that the beams of the VFW hall could not take the vibration from Jimmy Jackson and his Wild Five.

Seems the last place they played over in Morgan County, the Moose Hall had to do some replacing of the light fixtures and a bit, no make that half, of the roof had caved in. One wonders how anyone could hear after that and there is not enough money in the VFW Building Fund to repair the roof and has not been ever since the last windstorm caused the shingles to fly off. I know there were those that say that if perhaps the VFW Had used an outside contractor instead of the Calhoun County Roofing and Retreading Company the shingles might have lasted longer but in all fairness the Calhoun County Roofing and Retreading company did offer to retread the roof at half cost and those rubber tiles did look good as long as they lasted.

The Prom is supposed to be a good one this year but the young folks of Calhoun County are beginning to be worried; there are only 25 people in the graduating class and as of now there will only be 24 next year. That is why they went to Biloxi this year for a field trip to try and get people with high school age children to come to Calhoun County. The results of that visit at another time.

Jim is manning the night shift down at the Handy Mart again and requests that someone tell him what Dark Thoughts he has had. Being a Baptist he is no sure about those things. Tonight he is offering a 2 for 1 hot dog special seems that Joe the day person over loaded the hot dog machine again and Jim does not want to throw them away and knows he cannot eat 20 hotdogs before morning.

We leave you with the Morgan's Great Dane walking down the street toward home after a hard night chasing the cars down on the JP Pettigrew Memorial Highway.
