All of the lights on Main Street are out and it looks like a dark empty space. There was talk awhile back of putting up street lights that were on all night but then one of the county board members asked why they should waste the electricity and another mentioned security and it was ask what they needed security for when the last reported theft was that of the rails from the railroad so it was pretty well tabled.
A lot of things happen in the dark in Calhoun County; Billy Miller is kissing Erma Lou out behind the Bank where they helped close it an hour ago. Billy Miller and Erma Lou have been meeting after work behind the Bank for almost a year now. Billy wants to take the relationship to a new level but Erma Lou is happy with the way it is and won't let Billy see her during the day. Billy is so smitten by Erma Lou that he is going along with it in hopes things will get better.
John Miller is filling his truck up with gas from the pump outside his shop. He does it in the dark so the folks at the Handy mart, where he goes and gets a dollar or so of gas every day, won't think he is letting them down and won't know he buys his gas from an out of town supplier.
The Calhoun County Fire dept (we have never lost a foundation or frame) has turned out the lights in the fire hall and gone to sleep in case they are needed, Later, they will be called out to put out a fire in Mary Williams dryer, but for now they can sleep well.
Jim down at the Handy Mart has finally figured out what his "dark thoughts" are and is not a happy camper he figures it was not a "dark thought" but a polite enquiry and next time he will just ignore the nun when she comes in, even though she does have really nice legs and…
Goodnight. Sleep tight out there; we want you back for the next show.
