The Grass On The Other Side
My lawn is covered with dandelions, Johnny Jump-ups, and clover There are children's toys and well-worn paths where little feet run over My neighbor's lawn is only green and always mowed so neat They have no well-worn paths and they have no precious little feet They fertilize and kill the weeds and destroy all the wild flowers They pick and prune and toil away for many, many hours Their dog just sits upon the porch and never runs and plays My dog digs holes and buries bones and in the sunshine lays I wonder when they’re old and gray what memories they will keep Will they think of their lovely lawn or my children's little feet? © Mary E.
