HOPE

In the shadows of the darkness deep in the night

I reached for one star to give me light

She penetrates through my despair

I called her HOPE; she feeds me peace,

A foreign feeling strange to me

I walked through life in the shadows of my fears

My past paralyzes any movement for a future

Memories from so long ago, of days I can’t seem to let go

Entrapped by my thoughts they have enslaved my soul

There are some things in life that you just can’t change

So you embark on endless journeys of self-help books

Only to remember more bad holidays and broken dreams

Like a scavenger hunt in search of un-healed wounds

Desperately in search of the drug that heals all

Only to discover there is no such thing

No matter where I travel HOPE follows me

One light in search of harmony

Of all things that frighten me

I didn’t stop loving the stars of my universe

Only to fear the darkness of the night

The hunt always leads me back to my original pain

So HOPE is all I have to light my way

If you look really hard you’ll see her starlight

Hope leads me to the north

Moving me in forward motion no reason to look back

On bad days her star stays bright

When my memories capture my thoughts

I look to the north and there is my faithful star

When the darkness overpowers my judgment

Hope is there to illuminate my presence
