I Was A Poet Once...
I was a poet once...
in another age
My thoughts quickly became words
transposing themselves
with ease upon the page
Now my thoughts ramble inward
...leaving the paper bereft
and my heart...in its discontent
...is lacking for a phrase
to even whisper to myself
Old friends and loved ones pass away
Young soldiers still die
Lingering memories cloud a new day
Sadness is the thought
that has come to stay
My words refuse to flow
as they did long ago
When my thoughts let go this time
...they fall not as words
but as tears' salty brine
I was a poet once...
