Ignorance and Innocence

Ignorance is an enemy

Innocence is a downfall

For are not sheep led

To the slaughter...innocents?

Too much ignorance hurts all.

Never forget...

Remember them

Nine to eleven million exterminated

By a madman’s whim

Always beware

For the Hitlers and Jim Joneses

Are still out there

Beguiling and pleading

Preaching sermons misleading

Teach your children

To know and care

Ignorance of history

Puts it in danger of repeating...

I am quite upset, as what started the thought stream for that poem was that my 10 year old granddaughter arrived at my house wearing a medallion on a ribbon which she had purchased at a local flea market...It is a brass medallion, a little bigger than a silver dollar, with a hole at the top where she had threaded a ribbon through so she could use it as a necklace. It has 1943 at the top and a Nazi symbol cut out in the center with Adolf Hitler written across the bottom...She had no idea what it was or who the Nazis were. This shocked grandma gave her a crash course in WW-II. She took it off and cried...Faye Sizemore
