In a Dark and Spooky Wood

In a dark and spooky wood on a late summer eve
I discovered things that made ancient ones in fairy folk to believe.

A toadstool white with powdered spores,
A butterfly that might have come from distant shores.

A bright green bug with clear and lacy wing,
The crisp brown shell of a cicada that went elsewhere to sing.

A sheaf of wheat, its seed brought here from a western alien land,
A fuzzy black and brown wooly bear that inched softly across my hand.

These tiny things helped this fairy princess to believe,
As she stood all alone in a dark and spooky wood on a late summer eve.
