IN MEMORY DAY
April 20, 2009
On a cold April day I stand
Here upon this hallowed ground
Rain mingling with my tears
The souls of heroes all around
Remembering his service and sacrifice
He who served and gave his life
Honoring the land he loved
I am forever his Vietnam wife
It is my turn to face the crowd
I swallow hard and try to say
His name so precious in my mind
Added on this "In Memory Day"
As I step forward to speak
I feel at last the world will know
He served with honor the USA
A debt of gratitude to him is owed
He did his time and boarded the plane
Home to an angry land he came
He rarely spoke of Vietnam
An honorable man filled with shame
I carried his name and image to The Wall
On granite his name cannot be seen
With brothers he stands on the other side
I place his remembrance at panel 33-E
Beyond the clouds and stormy day
I pray that he may be able to see
He is remembered with pride and love
From pain and disgrace he is finally free
God help us to never forget
That the cost of freedom is so high
Paid by honorable men on foreign soil
And death from the Agent Orange lie
