Jenny Lou

Jenny Lou was found dead in her home yesterday
No big deal she was trailer trash
No matter Jenny Lou always went to school
or that she made good grades
and was home every night
Jenny Lou's family was from across the tracks
The Sheriff was asked if he had any suspects in mind
One or two but I'll take my time
After all Jenny Lou was trailer trash
They will bury her next Tuesday
a white stone upon her grave
On it her date of birth and when she died
For the first time in her life
Jenny Lou was no trailer trash

I was going to leave this at that. I wrote it on the way home from Paducah this afternoon and as I said it to Karen she swore at me because I wasn't writing it down. It seems I do that a lot any more I will get an idea in my head and go for it. I have you guys to thank for that it has been missing to long from my life. Karen says we should get a tape recorder and carry it around with us, but I don't know.

Jenny Lou was not her name but when I was in the 5th grade and we lived in Grass valley there was this girl Named Phyllis Hebe, she was not the best looking girl in school but I liked her and unlike the rest of our class I never turned my back on her and for awhile I was walking her home from school but she would never let me walk her to her door just to the end of the block.

One day my father and mother called me into the living room and I knew I was I for it; I had no idea what for as I had not gotten in trouble in school and all my homework was done.

Yep I was right I was in trouble I had been walking Phyllis Hebe home from school. How could I disgrace my family she was from across the tracks and trailer trash. It seems according to what my parents had heard from someone her mother was a whore so it followed to reason that if her mother was a whore that Phyllis had to be one too. I had the temerity to ask my parents if they knew this for a fact and got smacked upside the head and told I was not to walk her home again nor have anything to do with her again.

I didn't listen to my parents and went on walking Phyllis home for the next two weeks until my older brother told on me.

It broke my young heart to stop but one beating for principles was enough and I did.

About three years later Phyllis was found in her home dead, she had been raped and murdered. My parents reaction to it. See I told you she would come to no good.

She now lies under a cold marble stone in a cemetery in Grass Valley just a name to many passing by but to me a memory of what might have been if I had been just a bit stronger as Phyllis was not murdered and raped by one of her mothers clients, whom by the way had a respectable job in a beauty parlor, but by a strange that had broken in her house. Had the person not confessed the murder would never have been solved. But that's all right some might say Phyllis was trailer trash

Rest in Peace Phyllis and if your looking down I'm sorry I really am.
