Lady Liberty
Passing through life as we know it Seems like the cost of freedom we sometimes forget And the ones that made us free; Homage we should offer on bended knee. Is that a tear on Lady Liberty I see?
Patriots of all ages and times Fought to preserve our freedom, some dying in their prime For no special favors or honor did they plead Fighting for honor and freedom was the key. Is that a tear on Lady Liberty I see?
They have fought to give us a special gift Not once was the cause of our freedom set adrift They came home to no more than being free. Their youth and innocence lost by decree Is that a tear on Lady Liberty I see?
For the most part little thanks did they receive Not as much as a handshake, nor allowed to grieve. At times spit upon and shunned by those still free Our nations military treated no better than debris Is that a tear on Lady Liberty I see?
A statue of bronze and stone For many years a symbol of freedom she was known Holding high the torch of liberty To countless thousands the freedom she stands for has been their plea Is that a tear on Lady Liberty I see?
For you see in today’s world of money and greed To take time to honor what she stands for there seems to be no need. Busy with our own lives' petty concerns, and only if it benefits me; From the past we seem not to have learned we agree Is that a tear on Lady Liberty I see?
Wars and rumors of wars I have heard, but fought without purity Freedom, liberty and justice cannot be without security And the politicians, may force us into another fighting spree May Lady Liberty’s torch shine a winning light for all to see. Is that a tear on Lady Liberty I see?
