Letters Home from Basic 3

We had a lot of fun today. First of all we were all marched to this big room and sat down. The next thing I knew some yoyo was pointing a weapon at us and moving it from one side of the room to the other so I dove beneath the desk and I was yelled at. But I guess I was a good yelling at as I was the only one that was not sitting there staring at the gun wondering what to do.

I found out something interesting today. Did you know that we cannot go to war unless the temp is right? They have something called a ‘red bulb’, and if the temp reaches it we are brought back to the barracks and put to work shining our shoes or something. I have to wonder what would happen if it was a real war. Do we just tell the other side to hold off until it cools off and is under the red bulb temp?

We are studying our General Orders. We are supposed to be able to recite them whenever our TI wants us to. I am not to good at it but today my TI asked me what my 4th general order was and I told him I didn't know so he told me I was a dumb shit and I agreed with him. I have however discovered how to sleep at Attention or Parade Rest. It confuses the hell out of my TI.

I hear we are going to have the fun of running the obstacle course tomorrow. Sounds like a lot of fun to me but then again maybe the red bulb will come out again.

Well it is about time to go to chow. Must be a pretty good meal as there is only one ambulance sitting outside the chow hall.

Give my love to all and Sammy a pet for me.

Love,

Your son
