Here, in this now silent,
empty, unforgotten place ~
where people were numbered and counted, and
the look of hunger was common
on each face ~~
Here, where green grass takes hold
and Life battles its way through
memories of families of old ~~
Here in Birkenau, life starts anew.
Here Life proves to us again
that it cannot be stamped out
forever, because of evil men;
It comforts the Souls of those who doubt.
A bit of green between the concrete block
comes with the springtime weather, at no cost,
where even now, ghostly shadows walk;
It hallows the ground where lives were lost ~
