Long Tom
Still told through the Cumberlands of Kentuck
in the famous Gap...there is a legend that says
there lies arustin` somewhere...mighty 'Long Tom'..
a giant cannon used in the Civil War
The Confederates 'spiked' him...
to render him useless...to fight no more
and then pushed him from a mountaintop
They say he has lain all these years…undiscovered
somewhere in these hills and hollers
in the shadows of Cumberland Mountain
what a thrill it would be
to stumble upon his resting place
Would I give out a rebel yell of discovery...
or would I retreat before this sleeping giant
...leaving him…to his mountain peace...
