I

ME

When vulgarness describes a name,

From my lips uttered with great shame

Then I do suffer my own scorn,

For foul words in my heart aren’t born.

Though the target may be bad and vile,

Tis not in my mind to defile,

Nor criticize whom I might see,

As someone who would scoff at me.

I’ve never known how to hate,

Nor how to retreat from what I state,

Nor do I seek to tell a lie,

And for the truth I’d surely die,

And if I said God speaks to me,

My conscience Sir, would not agree.
