MISTY PEAKS

To what misty peak would you have me climb?

Do I have the strength, do I have the time?

If I did your bidding what would I gain,

Except a lonely pedestal and a lot of pain?

Where the fog and mist doth dim the eye,

To what lies below such a peak so high?

For to wade the swamps and fields below,

And cross dry deserts where harsh winds blow,

I'd be part of all that my eye might view,

From the mountaintop when the mists withdrew.

Revealing the forests where I have not been,

The birds and the animals in a land serene.

There is not much space on a mountain’s crown,

Just enough for one; and a long way down.
