Moon Flowers
A pale flower did bloom
in the darkness of the moon
Many velvet petals did it form
grew thorns to keep from harm
Beheld in the moonlight
...a most glorious sight
and its sweet perfume
would rise to my room
A new moon rises
and so…but of no aim
death to the moonflower
in the darkness came
Rise anew on another night
Waft your sweet perfume
...invade again...my room
and…so dispel the gloom
Deeply…I inhale
…with half-closed eyes
opening in wide surprise
...to hear a lover’s sigh
Moonflowers...born of night
below in the darkness mist
...just out of my sight
holding a lover’s tryst.
