Nihilism Exhausted

A fountain unseen sets the mood
for mem'ries overflowing
and tears unheard o'er water fall
negate old debts long owing

Thirteen thousand yesterdays
one today and one tomorrow
make up the year that always is
the year of unspent sorrow

But sadness has not - cannot claim
the mem'ry of friendships known
and tears that flow upon the soil
nurture seeds of mem'ry sown

On this balmy star-filled night
the moon glows fully round,
soft the fall of padded feet
disguised by insect sound

Within this silent, gentle time
an old man and friends unite;
a shadow passes o'er the moon
and a heart gains some respite.
