Not A Fan Of Fireworks

On this hot Fourth of July evening

All around the celebration does ring

Me…viewing from our back deck

It’s a free show…what the heck

From inside the living room

Is the sound of a loud TV

Covering the fireworks boom

Louder and louder still...

Louder than the fireworks trill

From the display he gets no thrill

Instead he feels a deathly chill

By eleven o’clock tonight

None will be in sight

And no more will be heard their deafening boom

And volume will return to normal once more

On the TV in front of the veteran in the living room.
