Nubian Princess
My Nubian Princess has
gone home
The castle doors are closed;
Lights are dimmed, shutters drawn,
But the sweet scent of a rose
Lingers still, dispelling gloom;
My princess would not have us mourn.
Those petals sweet, repel defeat
We must not be forlorn.
Joy is what she was all about,
Togetherness, love, and respect,
Even while my heart is pained
I have to stop and reflect:
Sorrow is not her legacy,
So fling the shutters wide;
Unbar the doors, turn up the lights,
Let the sun back inside.
I cannot send her off in gloom
My Princess is singularly blessed;
Her joyous spirit fills the room
As flights of angels sing her to rest.
