On The Other Side Of Town

There is a road
where the affluence ends
and poverty and neglect begins
Rundown houses
with weeds all around
Trash on the curb...
spilling to the street
Skinny dogs tied
to old junk cars
waiting for their masters
… gone to the bars
This deduction drawn
from the empty bottles
of beer and wine
discarded here and there
No sight of a cultivated flower
No grass mowed with care
Empty pizza boxes
piled on the porch..
a waiting welcome home
for a wandering roach
Rents aren’t paid
Utility payments not made...
not while there’s a good time to be had
it happens that way...it’s really sad
Slinky cats hunting the rats and mice
not minding that the scenery’s not so nice
Beautiful little girl playing in the dirt...
pushing toy trucks and cars aroun`
…so there is one tiny flower that’s
trying to grow
...on the other side of town...
