ON YOUR CHILD’S FACE
Would that deflection of your callous wrath, Succeed with promise of less rumpled path, Then even you dissatisfied by your miss, Might for a time such narrow thought dismiss. For more than calm doth gentler words convey, That with such kindness beneficial do they lay, A foundation firmer better made from proof, That in your heart there lives substantial truth. And Sir, tis love that trusts itself to say, To scold and chide is not the noble way, Nor blame, nor hate, that leads, alas, to war, To shed the ideals that we are striving for. For the road to peace, goodwill, and to Grace, Lives in the smile on your child's face. ©1/3/2004 Colin F Jones
