PAWNS
Do we not fear to say what we may feel,
That what we say others might reject?
And of our thoughts of value they will steal,
Or what we say they never will respect?
Are we not taught that we are always wrong,
By teachers who believe they’re always right?
Are we not told by others we belong,
To this or that for which we all must fight?
We are suppressed as children in our schools
Taught to obey whether we agree or not,
To live our lives by another’s rules,
Accepting a freedom that we have not got.
We might well for our loved ones choose our place,
But we are all just pawns in a bigger place.
