Pebbles

Her name was Pebbles
She had long blonde curly curls
With a pink bow in her hair
she was a true girly girly

She had a smile that would light my world
With long floppy ears
I had her since she was a pup
God, she has been with me for so many years

Where has the time gone by
She never missed a day lying
Faithfully by my side
As we both aged with time

My dog was more then just my little friend
When I woke up to another morning
She was the 1st pair of soulful eyes
That would greet me every day

She would wag her tail
No words needed to be said
I would take her outside
As she took care of business

Once she was done
Off to the grass she would go
She loved to roll on the lawns morning dew
It was one of her favorite things to do

Chasing butterflies in the sky
Running and jumping up and down on the lawn
It's hard to believe my little Pebbles is really gone

For so many years when I came home
She always greeted me at the door
With her tail wagging faster then it could move
And great big smile that would light my world

She would reach out her little pawn in the air
Ready to shake my hand as I came in
To the kitchen we would go
Her favorite part of the day was getting ready for dinner

She would smell the food as it began to cook
Her eyes would get this great big happy look
She knew she would be eating pretty soon
After dinner to yard we would go
We both ate far too much so we would take it slow

By the garden bench she would sit by my side
We sat and watched all the people passing by
We both stared at each other wondering
How all these years have come and gone

Then one day
We both turned old and gray
And her smile turned to silence
Her little tail stopped wagging

You see she had been sick
For about a year
In my heart
I knew the time was coming near

I asked God to prepare me for the day
When my little Pebbles could no longer come out to play
The time has come to an end
For my little special friend

That night she came to me in my dream
She asked me to please let her go
She thanked me for my friendship
And for being her special friend all these years

She thanked me for feeding her all her special treats
For always taking her to be groomed
For always remembering to ask to put that pretty pink bow in her hair
But most of all for all the years we have shared
And for always, always being there

The morning came soon enough
She came to me for one last time
Her big brown eyes could no longer hide
The cancer that was killing her slowly inside
She was telling me it was time to say goodbye

The Vet came in to the room
He was gentle and very kind
I held her in my arms and gently kissed her softly
I told her how much I loved her
And how I would miss my little friend

I got down on my knees
I asked God to give me strength
As I carried my Pebbles in my arms
And handed her to over to my God
My Pebbles open her pretty eyes no more
Her tail never wagged again

God was holding her
As he stood at the door
That night I cried my self to sleep
That's when God himself came to me

He came to me in my dream
He asked me not to cry any more
Because my Pebbles was jumping over rainbows
Landing on cotton candy clouds
She was chasing butterflies in the sky

God told me again in my dream
Not to worry any more
Pebbles was waiting for the day
That her old friend would join
Her by her side.
As she chased butterflies.
