Politics

Pretty words and facile phrases

conceal the eyes’ steely glint

while artfully built verbal mazes

further hide cunning intent.

Weary, weary grows the listener

of the lies spun through the years,

woven by scheming petitioners

feinting orally, sometimes in fear.

Boastful, bragging, deceitful tales,

told to keep ambitions alive,

by political hacks in plush-lined jails

surviving on ‘shuck and jive’.
