The Porch Light

Remember as a child,
being caught out after dark?
The night seemed so unfriendly;
you jumped at every dog bark.

Remember rounding the corner,
and seeing that porch light on?
All of your childish fears vanished,
over the darkness you'd won.

Tonight I'll light my porch light,
it will stay on night and day,
some soldier might need it,
to help him find his way.

Maybe knowing the porch lights,
are being turned on for them,
will chase away some of the fear,
and thoughts so very grim.

So won't you please join me,
with our porch lights we will say,
"We're waiting for your return,
we'll help by lighting the way."
