Scars of War
Long after the war has ended physical and emotional scars remain. The lives that we have lived can never be the same
The scars of war run deep, as a tattoo upon the heart Of old battles and brothers who can never be forgot
And the scars that can't be seen are the ones that hurt the most, for they are impossible to treat and are the reality of war's cost.
Though scars are healed wounds, In the mind they seem to ache, For there in thoughts consumed, They keep the brain awake,
Hidden within the innermost soul are reminders of sacrifices untold, that throb for those who were left behind – these cicatrices on the mind.
The extended climacteric festering, Of the wound that does not heal, Influences the body's chyle, And rest from sleep doth steal.
The Vietnam Memorial Lists all those who died. But those that came back Were hurt too.. deep down inside. For spite, scorn and indifference Leave scars that are real; And those wounds to the Spirit Take a long, long time to heal.
We are the Children of Veterans who have survived The Scars of War we can not hide They live deep inside among us all We have suffered our Veteran Fathers' silences way to long We live to tell their stories and pass them on.
I am a Daughter of War, My Father I have given to Mars His war is my war and his memories are my memories He carried his scars in his mind as well as on his body I carry his pain and his grieving for those he left behind
His Scars of war that cannot be seen, His Scars of war that will not heal my Scars of his war that must someday heal
I know the hurt and pain they feel The scars of war take time to heal The names on the wall are hard to see Through tears and pain caused by things unseen We all have scars though we know not why But I can feel the pain they all feel inside
