Self-Contentment

The only thing I’ve ever wanted to be
is giddily, gloriously happy with me.
There may be cynicism in other men’s eyes,
but my ultimate satisfaction lies

in knowing that I am complete in myself,
that I am on the very top shelf
of all that’s admirable in my mind.
It’s quite possible you will find

me somewhat lacking (in your estimation).
I simply regard that as a manifestation
of your short-sighted inability to see
the delight I take in being me.

You may think of me as an egotist,
but here I sit in self-absorbed bliss:
the quintessential narcissist.
