Seven Majors and a General

left safety sound and sight

To monitor and encourage

travel faster than bright sunlight

Sergeants Major in the entourage

took refuge in the night

Knowing that relative travel

was eons out of sight

Seven Majors and a General

drank toasts to the flight

Of a Corporal and a Private

sailing off into daylight

Five bearded scientists

witnessed the sendoff in the night

Knowing that they would return

before they left at light

Seven Majors and General

watched through a starlight sight

The Corporal and the Private

as they rocketed through the night

Sergeants Major in the entourage

nodded approval of that flight

Five bearded scientists saw them

return before they left at night
