SLEEP SWEET, MY SON

Sleep, my son,

my dear, young one -

Sleep deep and sweet;

your duty's done.

Sleep sweet

you're almost home

wrapped in our flag

you're not alone.

No one loved you

more than I;

I'll see your light

in a moonlit sky

I'll feel your breath

in the swaying grass

I'll feel at ease

as the breezes pass.

Your hand on my shoulder

won't be just rain,

I'll close my eyes

to hide the pain

Sleep, my child,

my dear, young one

Sleep deep and sweet

your duty's done.
