Still and All…

She was very young...about twenty one is all

She sat on the floor in the hospital hall…knees drawn up

with her head down and her back to the wall

Just moments before she had flung open the door..

stunned by her angry young soldier home from war

…deafened by his shouts of..."Get out! Get out!"

He said that he knew she was a person of class

No longer did he wish to keep her tied to him...

‘an armless cripple not able to wipe his own ass’

On the floor in the Military Hospital hall

..She prayed that this too would pass

She loved him…she was his wife after all

She was just thankful that he had not died

They would get through this somehow

With her head on her knees…she cried

She was very young...about twenty one is all

she sat on the floor in the hospital hall…knees drawn up

with her head down and her back to the wall
