The Closet…WWII…
A Self Education
The Holocaust..
in black and white
..for a child reading alone
in a closet..
oh.. what a sight..
Light filtering
from the tiny slanted
window above
The child was not reading
words of love
Old newspapers..
stacked and saved
..stored here
in this treasure cave
Stories of horrors and war
..words burned
into a young heart
..forevermore
Smoke used to reach
to the sky
from the crematoria’s
where the bodies
were piled high
Yellowed newspapers
..brittle with age
Eagerly young hands
turned each page
Stark pictures
in black and white..
destruction caused
by a madman’s might
I still am not
able to understand
the horror
of man's inhumanity to man.
