TIME
When I was
very young I thought
time stood still The
carefree simple days With
laughter we would fill
We'd stay
outside for hours Invent
silly games to play Get into
lots of mischief Until the
suns last ray
Slid
behind the mountain And
mother’s voice would yell Suppers on
the table I recall
the heavenly smell
Always a
full course meal Then
dishes we would do We'd
gather in the living room A bit of
television we would view
Up the
stairway we would climb Snuggle in
soft, warm beds We'd close
our eyes in prayer With
contentment in our heads
Now the
days pass swiftly by The hands
on the clock race past Too many
responsibilities Too few
hours to finish the task
No time
for silly games to play The sunset
is ignored Everyone
has their own TV Silence is
my reward
If I could
turn the hands of time Back to my
childhood days I'd
cherish the minutes and slow my pace And watch
the sunset blaze
So today
I'm going to slow my step The chores
I'll put on hold I'll sit
on the porch while the raindrops fall And
patiently grow old
Today,
this minute is all we have The hands
of time move on If we
dwell too long on yesterday Today will
soon be gone
