TOGETHER
1
Unjust as this false world might well declare,
Bountiful love and truth as absent dreams,
I see beyond the hardships that we share,
Delights and passions that reach divine extremes.
For what I might possess that fails to show,
As treasured thoughts that live because of thee,
Do from my deeper self to your self flow,
Returning as dear love to rest in me.
Oh, yet as I do seemingly declare,
With irritant temperaments cynical views of life,
Derived from inner torments we can’t share,
Still yet I love thee oh my gracious wife.
And I can but admire your faith in me,
For you can beyond my outer frailties see.
2
And you are in yourself much joy denied,
Ravished by pain an unrelenting foe,
Which cripples thee with worsening implied,
Yet despite our anguish love herein doth grow.
We're not betrayed by torment and despair,
Nor led away from where we seek to go,
Though all we suffer seems not to be fair,
We follow where the brightest star doth glow.
Being what we are with little time on Earth,
There is no time to challenge gentle peace,
Nor dwell on what our personal lives are worth,
For we must by example love increase…
Ere yet this goodness that defines our way,
Will not perhaps be lost when we decay.
